The Project

Out of School Project for 5-13s

The project operates from Newington Green School through the extended schools network project. We currently work with the following schools in Islington and Hackney:-

Newington Green, St. Matthias, St. Jude’s, Grasmere, Betty Laywood, St. Mary’s and Grazebrook.

The services provided are:

• Breakfast Club daily from 8-9am. Breakfast is provided and children are escorted to their respective schools.
• After School Club daily from 3.30-6pm. Children are collected from their various schools and given a healthy snack and the opportunity to take part in a range of activities and events.
• Playschemes. These take place during Easter and Summer and the three half terms during the school year. All Playschemes run from 8am to 6pm
• Young Persons Mentoring Project. Former users return to us as volunteers and gain experience and personal development

Recent examples of activities include Eat London Arts Performance in Trafalgar Square which featured on the local TV news; the making of a short film by the children which was shown at the Rio Cinema; a lantern making workshop where the children’s lanterns were displayed at the Newington Green Winter Festival.

All staff are qualified in Playwork and where appropriate in food hygiene and health and safety. Volunteers are encouraged to take up training as well.
